the entrance to 101 north. so the california highway patrol is urging drivers to reduce speed below the posted limit throughout the marin area because of flooded freeway sections. now, this is the first significant rainfall of the season and it is causing some major problems throughout the bay area. here are some other areas drivers should be aware of. there is flooding in larkspur on 101 northbound, sir francis drake. also in oakland, flooding on 880 south at 980 west and standing water on 580 at highway 24. expect delays there. the right lane and shoulder are affected. also, in calistoga avoid the area on highway 29 before tubbs lane. the lanes are blocked. some of the biggest problems in antioch. there is a sig alert on highway 4 at hillcrest because of flooding. this is the first rain we're seeing in quite a while so drivers take it easy out there. you're going to want to maintain minor pressure on your brakes. you're going to want to drive
5:03 am
slower than usual. make sure you're not skidding or hydroplaning. best advice, go slow. if you have been waiting to replace your worn tires now is the time. we are well into fall. winter around the corner. the weather is changing and you want to be safe on the roads. >> thank you. we have good news for commuters. construction on the san mateo bridge finished way ahead of schedule and it reopened about half hour ago. so we're showing you a live look at the traffic on the bridge right now not bad. it's been closed since 10:00 friday night so crews could make the much-needed seismic upgrades and repaies. crews have been so efficient they won't need to close the bridge again next weekend as planned for upgrades and repairs. liz took the right day off because i have a feeling you're going to be busy. >> how convenient she took today off because it's raining on the roads. in fact, we have lots of troubles to report. so grab a jacket, get out early if you can.
5:04 am
good news/highway 4. all lanes open westbound 4 at hillcrest. it was closed while they cleared flooding. we are seeing delays off the antioch bridge so give yourself some extra time as you work your way through there. another accident westbound 580 at harrison blocking lanes. slow conditions as you approach the scene where that accident is. possible injuries reported, as well. and again we have flooding reported in and around the area throughout the bay area so be careful as you go out the door this morning. no accidents or flooding on 80 but you can see i-80 is very busy on the eastshore freeway near ashby. slow conditions may also be as you approach the bay bridge making the turns on the ramps and so on so be careful exiting the freeways. 880 okay. we had early-morning trouble spots on 880 near 980 but that's cleared out of the roads. southbound moving along as you work your way towards hayward so a great day to use mass transit. bart, ace, muni, caltrain and your ferries all right on time this morning. so if you want to avoid the wet roads, that's a good choice.
5:05 am
back to you guys. >> thank you. the storm is causing power outages around the bay area, as well. an outage in oakland started with 7,000 customers. pg&e says it's down about 1900 right now and in san bruno and south san francisco, 800 customers in the dark. 5:05. new this morning, a train in fremont actually collides into a truck splitting it in two. the accident happened around 3 a.m. this morning on auto mall parkway near noble drive. it appears the truck driver drove on the railroad crossing tracks. the vehicle was struck and a union pacific cargo train hit it after the vehicle got stuck. the driver got out before the collision. this is in a remote part of fremont so no marriage traffic delays to report. -- so no major traffic delays to report.

policy. the president said he is handling the crisis as well as winding down afghanistan. reporter: this will be the third and final time that the two candidates take the stage together for debate. >> this debate matters more than ever before. >> reporter: expect moderator bob schiefferer to spend plenty of time on libya. on sunday, republican senator marco rubio suggested the obama campaign tried to keep the foreign policy focus on the death of bin laden. >> is that why for two weeks they told us that the libyan incident in benghazi was a popular uprising and not a terrorist attack? because it ran counter to their campaign there. >> reporter: obama campaign officials say it's not their candidate who is playing politics with libya. >> even while the flames were burning in benghazi, mitt romney was sending out political press releases. >> reporter: president obama had a lead in the polls when the debates began. but the race has gotten tighter since then and the new cbs news poll of a key swing state shows the same result. in the battleground state of ohio, the president leads mitt romney 50 to 45% down from a 10- point lead at the end of september.
5:10 am
>> the president created this false image of mitt romney in the minds of some voters knocked down in the first debate. >> reporter: the obama campaign has plenty to be excited about. early voters in ohio favor the president 54-39%. >> if you look at the early voting that's going on around the country, it's very robust and it's very favorable to us and we think that's a better indicator than these public polls which are frankly all over the map. >> reporter: the president also leads among those who say they are going to vote on election day. randall pinkston, cbs news, boca raton, florida. and, of course, the romney campaign is pointing out if you look at the trend line of the polls, they are moving up, the president is moving down. and, of course, the romney campaign likes that. reporting live in boca raton, florida, i'm randall pinkston. back to you. >> randall, we have been talking about foreign policy especially tonight the highlights tonight. what do you think are most likely to produce the most fireworks? >> reporter: well, juliette, again, we believe that the
5:11 am
benghazi attack will be top on mitt romney's list of attacks on the obama administration pointing out that the story has changed. of course, the obama administration defense is that they are reporting what they were told by the intelligence community. and that they are trying to get to the bottom of it and, of course, track down those responsible for killing americans but you can also expect the obama campaign to reprise something that senator kerry has been saying recently describing john kerry -- i'm sorry, he is describing mitt romney as being full of bluster and blunder and not having the kind of judgment that it takes to be commander-in-chief. >> also, bob schieffer is the moderator tonight. what can we expect from him? >> reporter: well, correspondent bob schieffer has selected the topic of discussion. he has selected the questions. he is making sure no one knows the questions in advance and he is going to cover as many foreign policy issues as possible. everybody says and believes
5:12 am
that this entire election will be about the economy. but as recent years have shown us, at any given moment there can be a foreign policy question and american voters will want to know where the candidates stand. of course they already know how president obama will react. but they don't really know a lot about mitt romney's philosophy and tonight will be his first and possibly last opportunity before the election to spell it out. >> thank you, randall pinkston. and you can watch the final presidential debate live tonight on cbs 5 starting at 6:00 and on cbssf.com. it is 5:12 now. major recall by nissan. the potential problem with thousands of cars. >> plus, screener face-lift? why the tsa is removing some body scanners at major airports. >> they are supposed to be bouncing around the australian out back. the strange spot where this guy ended up instead. coming up.
